1.Difference between VC6 and VC9:
- VC6 is compiled with Visual Studio 6; choose it if PHP is hosted with Apache. VC9 is compiled with Visual Studio 2008; choose it if PHP is hosted with IIS. VC9 targets IIS and does not support Apache, while VC6 supports both IIS and Apache.
2.Difference between TS and NTS:
-
Windows PHP has Thread Safe and Non Thread Safe versions from 5.2.1 onward. Literally, Thread Safe performs thread-safety checks during execution to prevent CGI, which starts a new thread for each request, from exhausting system resources. Non Thread Safe does not perform these checks. 3.Two PHP execution modes: ISAPI and FastCGI.
-
ISAPI uses a DLL dynamic library that runs on user requests and does not disappear immediately after handling one. It therefore needs thread-safety checks to improve execution efficiency. For PHP through ISAPI, choose Thread Safe.
4.FastCGI executes operations in a single thread, so thread-safety checks are unnecessary. Removing them can improve efficiency. For PHP through FastCGI, choose Non Thread Safe.
5.Check NTS versus TS with phpinfo();
- Check the Safety field to see whether it is thread-safe.
- If it is enabled, it is generally TS; otherwise NTS.
